SR22 Filings In Washington
Reader’s Question:
I had received some traffic violations in my lifetime and all of a sudden my insurers asked me if I want them to file SR22 for me. Why and how should I get SR22 here in Washington?
Ned
Seattle, WA
It is just necessary for your insurers to ask you if they can file SR22 for you since you had certain traffic violations in Washington. SR22 is a required document that can prove your financial responsibility to the court for those who are convicted of some traffic violations. SR22 is usually filed by the insurance company stating that your auto liability insurance is in effect. This is actually required to those who are in accident or convicted in traffic violations and does not have a proof of financial responsibility.
Washington is one of the states that require SR22 Filing but it doesn’t mean that if this state requires SR22 Filing, all state requires it. But if you have moved to a state that does not require it, it does not mean that you don’t need SR22 Auto Insurance anymore but instead you have to continue it still for you must continue to meet the requirements of the state that you had committed the offense. If you have SR22 and move to another state, even if you have moved to a state where they require SR22 Filing, you have to fulfil he SR22 filing period from the state you moved out. If you moved to a state where they require SR22 Filing then your insurance policy where you moved in should also have the liability limits that the law requires in that state.

Auto Insurance Time Frame Washington WA
Reader’s Question:
If I buy a car here in Washington, what is the allowable time frame for me to get automotive insurance?
Anita
Bellingham, WA
The state of Washington requires that liability insurance be carried by licensed operators of motor vehicles. This law is to be adhered upon the operation of a vehicle and it does not acknowledge any grace period for acquiring the said insurance. If you violate this state law and you get caught, you may face penalties such as payment of fine, imprisonment, or suspension of driving license.
The state insurance regulator of Washington notes that since different auto insurance companies have different time frame prerequisites for the addition of a new vehicle to an existing policy, you may have to check with your auto insurance carrier if you will be given a grace period for the insurance application. You may also ask for the coverage of physical damages for the time being that your auto insurance application is being processed.
If you are buying a car and you do not have any existing auto insurance policy, then you may have to obtain auto insurance first before taking home the car with you. If you want to have your auto insurance released on time, you may give the auto insurance company the required information about the vehicle ahead of time.
