In Washington state, typically, a driver is mandated to carry an SR-22 for a period of 3 years. Why you are mandated to carry an SR22 may vary the years you are mandated to maintain it though.

Driving Under the Influence (DUI) in the state of Washinton means driving an automobile while affected by alcohol, drugs, or both. This is applicable to both legal and illegal drugs, such as prescription medicine and over-the-counter drugs. Your drivers license may be suspended from ninety days up to four years with DUI depending on the seriousness of the offense and based on your previous offense and your blood alcohol level. The period where you need to carry the SR-22 can differ based upon the details of your DUI also.

The methods you have to take to restore your license after your DUI are based on a number of factors, including your blood alcohol content and whether you had been involved in any past DUI occurrences. Your suspension notice should list all you need to do to have your license reinstated.

To understand more about this kind of suspension or ways to get your license back and period of time you will have to carry the SR-22, get in touch with the Washington State Department of Licensing. you may contact them at (360) 902-3900.

Reader’s Question:

How long do I have to carry a Washington SR22? Is it three years?

Mike

Bellevue WA

Yes that is correct. The time period that a driver will need to carry an SR22 in Washington is three years. It will still depend on the reason why you are being required to maintain an SR22 though.

Your state may require you to carry an SR22 for the following reasons:

1. drivers license suspension
2. DUI/DWI
3. Accident without proper liability insurance
4. Subsequent offense of leaving a child unattended in a running vehicle

Generally, you will need to show proof of financial responsibility certificate in the form of SR22 for a period of three years to have your license reinstated. The time period of three years will start from the time that you are eligible to reinstate your drivers license.

If you want to be sure how long you are required to carry an SR22 in Washington state, I suggest that you contact the Department of Motor Vehicle. You may be able to contact the Washington State Department of Licensing to get more information on SR22 and SR26. You can reach them at WA DOL 360-570-7040.
