Reader’s Question:

We live in Everett, Washington and my son is 16 years old with a driver’s license. I currently have him on my car insurance but car insurance rates have been increasing, even though my son has no tickets or accident. Because of my limited income, I am no longer able to pay my son’s auto insurance so I told him that he will not be able to drive until my income goes up. I told my insurance carrier that I have to take my son off of my car insurance policy for at least 6 months. They told me that they cannot do that unless I show them proof that my son has turned in his license. Is this true?

Rick

Everett, WA

To be able to drive in Everett or any part of WA a driver needs to be insured in Washington State. This is the reason why when taking the driving test for a driver’s license proof of insurance is required. Most insurance carriers will require that all licensed motorists in your household be added and placed on your auto insurance policy since they are likely to drive your cars.

The reason an insurance company is so concerned about your teenage son either staying on the car insurance policy, turning in his license or even providing proof that your son now has his own insurance policy is because they may still be responsible for damages if the motorist is living in the household and is driving the vehicle without having an insurance policy on him to drive it.

For information on what the Washington State insurance laws with regards to this situation verify with the WA Office of the Insurance Commissioner. If you find out that it is only this particular insurance carrier’s guidelines that require you to keep car insurance on your teenage son and would like to find an insurer that may permit you to exclude him from your auto insurance policy, you may be able to get a quote in this website that you can see above this page.

Car Insurance Graham-Thrift Washington WA

Reader’s Question:

Is it possible to obtain auto insurance in Graham-Thrift with an expired license?

Jim

Graham-Thrift, WA

It may be possible to get car insurance in Graham-Thrift with an expired driver’s license but insurance carriers will generally require a valid driver’s license in order for you to get car insurance.

If your drivers license is newly expired though and can be renewed shortly, within thirty to forty five days, then an insurance carrier may permit you to start an insurance policy. If you can obtain an insurance company to start an insurance policy in this manner then you will need to get you license within the given time period or the insurance policy will be canceled.

Also someone else (typically only spouse) may be able to obtain car insurance on your car and exclude you from the car insurance policy.

Auto Insurance Payments Federal Way Washington WA

Reader’s Question:

I have a question regarding car insurance premium payments. Is it better to make the payment monthly or pay it in full? I live in Federal Way WA.

Bell

Federal Way, WA

If it is better to make the payment for an insurance policy through monthly payments or pay it in full is a personal decision best ruled by your own financial abilities and means. If you can afford to pay the auto insurance policy in Federal Way upfront and all at once then do so. If instead for your budget it is better to pay it off in installments then you may choose the monthly payment method.

With some insurance companies, you can add an additional 10% in savings when you pay your ca insurance premium in full.

With some car insurance carrier monthly payments come with a fee for each monthly installment. Usually this fee usually covers the cost of processing your payment on a monthly basis.
